Q: What is the Commonwealth International Composition Award for?
A: To promote composition around the world and to give young composers the skills they need to further their careers.
Q: Who can enter the competition?
A: For the FLYERS category, any composer aged 18 or under from around the world who is not a UK resident nor attending a UK specialist music school, or a Junior Conservatoire in the UK. For the STARTERS category, anyone can enter who is interested in composition from one of our 4 target regions.
Q: Who are the target regions?
A: For the first year, the target regions are Antigua and Barbuda, India, New Zealand, and Rwanda.
Q: How do I apply?
A: Fill in the application form, and upload a score/picture of music you’ve written, as well as an audio file.
Q: What is the age range for the competition?
A: The age range for the competition is anyone up to 18 years old who is still in school.
Q: What file types are accepted?
A: For the score, JPEG, PNG, PDF, .sib, .mus, .dorico, and .xml are all accepted. For the audio, MIDI, MP3, WAV, and .aiff files are accepted.
Q: Which musical styles do you accept?
A: We are looking for music in all styles from around the world. If you are selected, we shall try to match you up with a composer who will be sympathetic to your musical personality.
Q: When is the deadline for applications?
A: The deadline for applications is 11:59pm on 31st July 2019. ENTRIES FOR 2019 HAVE NOW CLOSED. RESULTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THE 23RD SEPTEMBER 2019.

A: A professional composition teacher, links to other composers around the world, and your music performed and recorded in a concert in London by the Dionysus Ensemble. See our category pages for further information.
